Sports

At Swanbourne Primary School we are fortunate to have wonderful facilities for sports as well as a very supportive community environment to expose children to a number of sports. The support from the parents is paramount and has enabled our success over the past number of years.

Swanbourne has grown in numbers and sporting ability, our PE specialist will develop and enhance the sport for the school.

Our objectives:

  • Develop school sport at Swanbourne Primary, where the focus is for both boys and girls to participate in mainstream / fundamental sports that develop base skills.
  • To compete and be successful in competitor events – interschool, district and at a state level.

SCHOOL SPORTS

Swanbourne co-ordinates training facilities and competition for swimming, cross country and athletics. Cricket is played in Term 4. Scotch College provide an end of season competition. Swanbourne has three house colours, Morrison (Red), Shenton (Green) and Collins (Yellow).

Each year in school time Swanbourne Primary School year 5 & 6’s participate in the Winter Sport Lightning Carnival where we compete against the A Division Schools (these include Rosalie, Nedlands, Dalkeith and North Cottesloe).

CLUB SPORTS

The winter sports which include Netball, Hockey, Football, Soccer and Basketball are Club sports. We have volunteer parent representatives that co-ordinate the teams for each sport. These can be found on the Club Sport section.

IN-TERM SWIMMING LESSONS

Swimming lessons for Pre Primary, Year 1 and 2 will be held at Claremont Pool in term four. Year 3 and 4 will be held at Claremont Aquatic Centre in term one, 2024. Year 5 and 6 are held at Cottesloe Beach.

SWIMMING TRAINING DAYS

Swimming training is offered in Term 1.  These training sessions will be coached by parent volunteers to prepare children for the faction and inter-school swimming carnivals later in the term. Training is available to competent and capable swimmers in years’ three to six. Individual POOL ENTRY FEES will apply at the gate.

FACTION AND INTERSCHOOL CARNIVALS

House Swimming Carnival this year includes students from Year 1 to 6.

Interschool Swimming Carnival is held at HBF Stadium for students in Year 3 to 6.

SWIMMING CAPS

Due to hygiene reasons, all children will be required to purchase a house swimming cap.

CROSS COUNTRY

Cross Country is run in Term 2. We have excelled in this area due to the before school training that has taken place over the years.

ATHLETICS

Athletics is a fantastic school event where the entire school participates. The carnival takes places in Term 3. Training for this is done in PE lessons, but will also be offered before school. Swanbourne traditionally hosts the interschool carnival due to its extensive grounds.

SPORTING SCHOOLS

The Sporting Schools program, an initiative of the Federal Government, allows additional exposure of sports for the students either in school or out of school.

The focus will be working with the PE teacher to ensure the best possible outcome and exposure for the students.  The money will be used in school time and will be free for students.  There may be some sports or activities which will occur outside of school hours and these will be advertised with various year groups.

We appreciate the wonderful parent support we receive with our sporting teams and sporting events.
