Enrolment Procedure

The first step to enrol your child into Swanbourne Primary School is to complete an 'Application for Enrolment'. Once your child's enrolment has been accepted, you will then be required to complete our official enrolment documentation.

Evidence of your child’s age and residence is required when submitting an application to enrol your child in a public school. This evidence includes:

  • Your child's birth certificate (original or certified copy) or birth extract or equivalent identity documents
  • Immunisation records available through your MyGov account
  • Family Court orders (if applicable)
  • Medical records where applicable (eg asthma, allergies)
  • Passport and visa details (if applicable)

Immunisation Requirements

Your child can only go to Kindergarten when they meet Western Australia’s immunisation requirements. This helps to better protect our children and community from vaccine-preventable diseases. The same immunisation requirements apply to Kindergarten at a school, a community kindergarten and a childcare service. If you would like to know more about the Kindergarten immunisation requirements or immunisation services visit HealthyWA.

Proof of Residence

Principals may accept a maximum of three of the following as evidence of residential address:

  • utilities payment advice
  • lease agreement - minimum lease of three months
  • proof of ownership of property (for example rates notice, deeds, mortgage)
  • driver's licence
  • statutory declaration

Children may be enrolled in Kindergarten in one school only, either public or private.

All children from Pre-primary are guaranteed a place at their local public school.

For more information or to find your local school visit web site of the Education Department.

If the number of children applying to enrol at a Kindergarten with a local-intake area exceeds the number of available places, enrolments are prioritised in this order:

  1. A child who lives in the local-intake area of the school, who has a sibling enrolled at the school for that year and who lives closest to the Kindergarten.
  2. A child who lives in the local-intake area of the school, who does not have a sibling enrolled at the school for that year and who lives closest to the Kindergarten.
  3. A child who does not live in the local-intake area of the school, who has a sibling enrolled at the school for that year and who lives closest to the Kindergarten.
  4. A child who does not live in the local-intake area of the school, who does not have a sibling enrolled at the school for that year and who lives closest to the Kindergarten.

All students are placed into their age appropriate year and class. A decision to place a child in a class that is not age
appropriate is at the discretion of the principal and is undertaken in consultation with parents.

The principal has the responsibility to implement the Enrolment Procedures policy of the Department of Education of Western Australia. Age appropriate enrolments are noted in section 3.1.1 of the policy.
